Purpose and scope
DrumTuner.io helps a drummer measure a specific job: compare a light tap near one lug with an explicit batter, resonant, or custom frequency target. It also keeps the assembled drum's center-hit fundamental as a separate measurement.
The presets, chart, kit calculator, and measurement guide are designed to make a tuning repeatable. They do not prescribe one correct sound.
What the meter reports
After microphone permission is granted, the browser samples a short audio frame and uses an autocorrelation-based detector to estimate a repeating frequency. A small median filter rejects isolated readings, and the result is compared directly with the selected target in cents.
The nearest note name assumes A4 = 440 Hz and is only a convenience. The Hz value is the actual comparison target.
Method and sources
The site's core distinction—overall drum frequency versus near-lug head frequency—and its calculator ratios are adapted from the Overtone Labs tune-bot tuning guide. Preset values use size-specific examples from that guide as practical starting points.

Limitations
A microphone meter cannot know whether it heard the intended head mode, an overtone, the opposite head, another drum, or a room reflection. Phone microphones can also struggle with very low kick and floor-tom fundamentals.
Use consistent tap placement, mute the opposite head, repeat the reading, and finish by listening and playing. Stop if a rod binds, a hoop distorts, or a head does not seat normally.
Microphone privacy
Pitch detection runs locally in the web browser. DrumTuner.io does not upload, record, or store microphone audio. Stopping the tuner closes the audio stream; the browser also controls whether permission persists.

DrumTuner.io is created and maintained by John Sorrentino. The explanatory copy, measurement guide, calculator workflow, and presentation of source-derived starting values are maintained for this site.
